We support the philosophy of the Small Footprint. It’s simple: The closer you shop to home the less damage you do to the environment. SaunaRay is made in Ontario from Ontario wood. We guarantee that we do not import our saunas from China. With rare exception infrared saunas are made in China. Virtually every carbon-type system comes from China. Virtually every ceramic tube-type system comes from China. Many Chinese importers advertise “assembled in Canada” or “Made with Canadian Wood” or “sold by a Canadian Company” because they know people prefer to buy something made in Canada. But these are all trick-phrases designed to distract you from the fact that the product is actually “Made In China.” In fact with China being the major manufacturer for the planet now, assume it is made in China unless the product actually says Made In Canada. Ask the person selling it. If they hesitate, or give an indirect answer, you’ll know why.

When Canadian wood is shipped thousands of miles across the Pacific it burns unnecessary fossil fuels that pollute the global environment. This is proven to be shrinking the polar ice caps. This is something people care about. Stopping global trade is insurmountable and not a viable solution for an individual. But one of the few things we can do about it is Buy Locally. It has an impact and will continue to for decades.   When a Chinese built sauna is constructed with “All Canadian Wood” it’s even worse for the environment than if they used Chinese wood. When that completed sauna is shipped back to North America it burns even more fossil fuels. By the time it gets to your home the pieces have traveled the distance of the Circumference of the Earth!   Exposure to fossil fuel pollution is why many people are forced to purchase a far infrared sauna in the first place - to detoxify. It makes no sense to create more pollution when shopping for a solution.

SaunaRay is Made in Ontario and uses only trees grown in Ontario .
We exclusively use Ontario-grown Basswood which was selected because it is non-allergenic and qualifies for what we believe to be the only toxin-free sauna on the planet. But Basswood is also an environmentally sensitive choice. It matures in only seven years and therefore is considered a sustainable wood.   One of the main tenets of Sustainable Development is to use materials that can be renewed before the life span of the product is over. SaunaRay units will last for decades and the Basswood can be renewed four, five, maybe even six times before the life span of your unit has been reached. This means you Leave a Small Footprint when you buy a SaunaRay.  

Canadian Cedar is not used by SaunaRay due to its natural toxicity. It contains a neurotoxin in the oil that kills moths and naturally stresses the human immune system. Doctors will not use it in their practices because too many people are allergic or sensitive to it. Western Red Cedar is often more than one thousand years old when it is “harvested” in order to attain that perfect knot-free board. These majestic trees are cut from magical forests on the west coast of Canada leaving a barren landscape unrecognizable as the forest that once stood there.   The wood is shipped to China which long ago used up its commercial forests and is now purchasing vast quantities of wood from Canada (Cedar), Russia (Spruce, Pine), Malaysia (Hemlock), Indonesia and any other country that will sell it to them. These woods are transported across oceans, often fumigated with chemical pesticides to ensure pests such as the Asian Longhorn Beetle and the western Pine Beetle do not jump continents. The dangers of not fumigating them are even worse. Our forests are currently being destroyed by foreign pests. So all wood coming from China should absolutely be fumigated in order to protect Canadian forests. If you buy a sauna from China that has not been fumigated it may risk beetle infestation which could destroy more of our natural habitat and economy. And if a Chinese sauna IS fumigated, it may release harmful toxins into your sauna when heated. These are a few facts to consider when making your choice.   This is why SaunaRay guarantees you only toxin free Ontario wood. All the time. Every time.
