CHINESE SAUNAS DANGEROUSLY WIRED

The Electrical Safety Authority of Ontario strongly warns people against purchasing far infrared saunas made in China. Many of these units are not inspected by electrical authorities and do not meet electrical codes of Canada.

Even some units with electrical rating marks have been shown to be dangerous:

You can identify them if they are Made of Hemlock, or if they advertise “All Canadian Cedar Wood” - This usually means the wood has been sent to China, and then returned to Canada as a poorly wired, toxic laden sauna.

For several years many companies have been importing these saunas from China, sometimes illegally. If you end up with one in your home it may not be worth the discount.

GASSED WITH INSECTICIDE

By law many wood products from China are Gassed With Insecticide before leaving port. Raw wood entering China from other countries can also be fumigated. This can infuse a sauna with toxic chemicals, right into the unfinished wood. The heater guards are often painted red, yellow or black and include a soft felt-like material that is filled with chemical fire retardant. Most saunas made in China, and many made in North America use plywood which contains formaldehyde glue. Beware these products for their toxicity. When heated, the chemicals can vapourize and you can breathe them in.
